What is song development? Every song you write is your baby – and in your eyes, it’s perfect. What happens when other people don’t get as turned on to your song, or don’t get it the way you do? Songwriting is both an art and a creative muscle, which needs training and tuning. Just because some people like Picasso and others like Kandinsky doesn’t mean they both don’t deserve to be in a museum; the same goes for songs.
JGLsongs has 20+ years of experience in songwriting, arranging, developing and production in a studio, collaboration and academic setting. Still, when push comes to shove, it’s the ear which rules whether a listener likes a song, and whether the song grabs the listener. (If you want your song to be popular, and if someone can’t hum any part of a song after hearing it a couple of times, it’s missing its mark.)
What if you could work with a professional who…
* Could take the time to fully understand where you are trying to go with a song?
* Gave you options on how to take a song from one level to another?
* Made sure each song reaches its potential.
The skinny on songs in today’s music business:
• C-F-G-C progressions don’t cut it anymore unless there’s a production that includes sounds and beats that no one has ever heard before;
• Epic songs will always be valued – and admired – but American Pie, Stairway to Heaven, Bohemian Rhapsody and Born to Run have already been written.
• Production and technology can make everything sound amazing – but they can’t make mediocrity great. The adage still remains true: “you can’t make chicken salad out of chicken #$%@.”
• A song has to grab you from the beginning. This rule has been around since the beginning of recording, but remains true – and in these times of shorter attention spans of bits and bytes, it’s got to grab you even from the first couple of measures.
PRODUCTION
It's tough to release music in a timely, affordable, high quality way. Self-production ties up valuable time that could be spent on creating new music. Hiring involves dealing with sketchy types or wiz kids who don't get artists while you are paying high rates and spending a lot of down time waiting in the studio. What if you could work with a producer who…
* Could take the time to fully understand where you are trying to go with a song?
* Got your feedback along the way, so that you could direct the process without having to drive it alone?
* Gave you the option of collaborating virtually, so that you didn't have to leave home unless you wanted to?
*Knew how to apply all the latest technology without bogging you down in the details?
* Kept prices affordable due to low overhead?
