1. How do I get started?
Whether you're planning a wedding, commitment ceremony or special event on your own or through an event planner, you or your planner can contact JGLsongs will all of your requests.
2. What does JGLsongs actually provide?
If you want commissioned, originally composed music for a wedding processional or music for an introduction to a commitment ceremony, or even a "theme song" for someone special, JGLsongs will take your messages and ideas and translate them into music.
3. What if I have a favorite song I want to use as a wedding processional or recessional?
JGLsongs can rearrange a favorite song for any type of event, no matter how unique. For example, one client wanted to walk down the aisle to The Weepies' "The World Spins Madly On." The client knew that a wedding processional to the actual song would have been a little bizarre - especially since the wedding party would have had to sprint down the aisle.
In this situation, JGLsongs was able to rearrange the song as a Baroque piece - in a way, it was Pachebel-ized to sound like a traditional processional piece, yet it was actually the song the couple wanted and to with, the couple had a connection.
4. Is using someone else's song legal ?
It depends. As long as the client uses it solely for the purpose of the event, and the event is not publicly broadcast on TV or radio, or is not filmed for a later use in a public broadcast or film. In that case, mechanical royalties would have to be paid as well as permission from the composer and publisher. If the re-arrangement is public domain, then it would be legal to use in any situation, e.g., if a client wanted an orchestral re-arrangement of Row, Row, Row Your Boat.
5. Who owns the originally commissioned music?
JGLsongs owns and maintains the copyright and publishing rights to all originally composed music. If the client's event will be broadcast or filmed for public commercial use, or if the client decides to pitch the music for use in commercial media at a later date, then royalties and mechanical licenses must be compensated for. A wedding video with the commissioned music played for personal use, etc., is not subject to any of these points.
If a client wants the commissioned music composed for hire (meaning JGLsongs relinquishes all rights to the piece), then the rates for for hire music will not reflect the general rates.
6. Can JGLsongs provide vocals, singers or other performers?
JGLSongs provides recorded, mixed and mastered instrumental music for your event. If you want an original song with vocals, JGLSongs will work with you as much as possible to make that dream a reality. Recording vocals in an original song will, however, take longer to produce and deliver than instrumental music, and will incur additional costs for singer(s), recording studio rentals, etc. JGLSongs is always open to your ideas and will work with you or your clients in as many ways as possible.
In terms of actual live entertainment or live musicians at your event, JGLSongs does not offer these services, however your event planner or entertainment agency will be the source to tap.
7. Is there anything else I need to know?
There are probably a ton of questions you might have - that's what e-mail and phones are for; there's never a limit on questions, feedback, brainstorming and general communication. This is your dream event - JGLsongs is here to make your dream a reality.
